Once upon a time, in a land far, far away...
You snap awake with a sudden jolt, the sounds of nature surrounding you. The ground is warm beneath your hands, a press of fabric under your head. Sit up. Look around. This isn't where you fell asleep. Not even close to it. But with no one around you, answers as to how you got there in the first place are a little beyond your reach for now.

If you decide to head off, don't forget your bag. You'll want that if you plan on making it out here. If you want to survive. And if you don't want to move, well...good luck. There's a shadow on the prowl. A rustle of leaves, a snap of twigs. Glowing eyes in the distance...

--------------------

Characters find themselves waking up on the bare ground (or a bed if they're very lucky), a leather pack beneath their head, and entirely alone. It's not where they fell asleep that night. Isn't even close. The sky is the wrong shade, the ground isn't quite right. The only note of familiarity are the clothes on their back.

Searching through their pack, characters will find a change of clothes, a few food rations, and something personal to them. They'll also find a pouch of wooden coins and a shard of mirror. Before they get a real chance to investigate those items though, they'll hear a rustle in the distance. The sounds of something moving around.

It's their cue to get moving too. And somehow, all characters find their feet guiding them in the same direction. Off towards the Great Lake, less than ten minutes walk away, no matter where on the island they first woke up.

Welcome to the island of Leutheria.
Welcome to the Fablelands test drive. Above is an arrival prompt that players are welcome to use to introduce or test out any characters they are interested in bringing to the game. Below is an on-going event that takes place throughout the first two weeks of a character's arrival.(Though the wolf will still remain a constant presence on the island for the months to come). And of course, you are free to use this post for any other prompts you wish to use, or mirrorshard conversations too. All threads are able to be used as game canon, providing both players agree to it, and can ultimately be used for bonus AC if you wish to.

If you have any questions, please direct them to the FAQ.

And without further adieu, let's get on with the show!

Once upon a time, in a land not so far away...

You wake to the feeling of being watched. Of a set of unfamiliar eyes, of warm breath on the back of your neck. A jolt back to the land of the living, and it's gone. No matter how quick you are, how sneaky, the source of the disruption has long since disappeared, so you have no choice but to try and ignore it. To continue on with your day and try to set that moment of strangeness aside.

You eat, drink, speak with others. Perhaps you explore a little. Whatever it is you choose to do for the day, that feeling from the morning won't return. And by the time the sun sets and the moon glows brightly above, you've likely set those moments of strangeness aside. It's not like it's anything new, after all.

It's the same again for the next few days. No better, no worse. Something best ignored, right?

A speck of blood on the doorframe. That wasn't there before, was it?

A snap of twigs in the distance. A crunch of leaves.

Claw marks gouged deeply into the door.

Into the wall above your bed.

Scraps of red fabric, turned darker with blood. Pieces of fur. Of flesh.

Do you run and hide? Do you fight? Whatever you choose, it's definitely time to make sure your body parts aren't scattered next...
...what a horribly big mouth you have.

--------------------

Since first waking up on the island, characters have been stuck with that feeling of being watched. It isn't a constant. Isn't more than a few seconds at a time, dotted throughout the day. Investigation has never turned up much, and there's never been any sightings of the cause of it all.

Until now.

Throughout the first half of the week, characters will find themselves suffering from that feeling of being watched on a far more constant basis. Rather than it being a one-off, few seconds occurrence each day, that feeling will last for minutes at a time, and on multiple occasions.

However, it isn't until the fifth day that they'll start stumbling across physical signs of their monitoring. There are claw marks on doors. Spots of blood on the paths outside. A crack of twigs in the forests, or the imprint of bloodied paws in the snow.

Ten days in and those signs start finding their way indoors. Wet footprints, tinged with red. Claw marks in the walls, the floor. Torn sheets and the smell of wet...something. Whatever it is that's been watching you, its finally decided to come and say hello.

Two weeks in and characters will begin to have sightings of the creature, its fur dark and its eyes a glowing yellow. At times it looks like a wolf, prowling in the distance. At other times, it's walking on its hind legs, almost human were it not for the muzzle full of gleaming sharp teeth. Get too close, and it slips away like a shadow, gone between one blink and the next. It decides when to reach out to characters, not the other way round.

It's after characters finally get a good look at the creature that it starts leaving...gifts. Characters will start to find familiar items from their home worlds amidst the mess. The remains of a childhood pet, perhaps. Photographs of loved ones, faces torn almost beyond recognition. It's only once it delivers its final gift that the creature retreats to the trees again: a blood-splattered item of clothing that clearly belongs to the person the character misses the most at the time, alive or dead.

Speaking of smells, this young man, Loki thinks, has an interesting smell.

He smell of wolves, Loki does know the smell of wolves well.

Hm---- ah, but no matter. Whatever he is, he is prisoner here just like Loki all the same, is he - or it - not?

In answer to the question, Loki shrugs.

"I wish I had an asnwer to that. However, I'd guess it's far from home. Feeling homesick? Though I assure you, the forests here aren't that bad, either."

A shot in the dark, partly, as Loki doesn't yet plan on checking this young man's deal thoroughly. If it's an animal - well then, Loki understands, better than anybody.

Let it be human if it doesn't get in the way.

And maybe he's mistaken. Maybe this is just a young mortal who owns many wolves.

Mordred isn't the only one hunting that wolf. Gamora knows that it's harmed at least one woman. That's enough to get it on her bad side. She's taken to stalking every sign of it in hopes it will reveal itself. Today is no exception. The face hunting is new.

Gamora stares only briefly before nodding to acknowledge their presence. "Any luck?" She asks like she expects none, but will always ask anyways in case she's wrong.

Is he really talking with his mouth full? Not that Mordred has any room to talk, but still. Not setting the best impression here, knight buddy.

“I've met mages before. Doesn't seem like any magecraft I've seen.”

She's definitely had her share of run ins with magic users. Both in Camelot and since being summoned into the Grail War, but nothing quite like that wolf. The closest that comes to mind is Frankenstein's Master's ability to summon animal familiars, but she's pretty sure that wolf and his ability are two completely different things with entirely different skill levels. Which is annoying, it'd be nice to have an easy answer for this one.

“What about you? You brought it up, so I'm guessing you have some experience too.”

"O-Oh..."

One final chew and swallow later, Howzer wore his heart on his sleeve. Utterly incapable of dealing with most enemies who relied on subterfuge and deception, he felt woefully inadequate having a question tossed back at him with any sort of expectation of expertise. There was a clear flinch in him as he was forced to really think about it.

"Well, yes," He began slipping his gauntlet back on, clipping it to the mail beneath with little effort. "I guess I've fought a lot of magic casters and worked with just as many before but I couldn't say I have experience with what's causing--"

A sudden relapse of memory caught him mid-sentence and he held up an armored mitt, interrupting himself.

"Gowther--the Goat's Sin of Lust! He has magic that could alter memories and make you forget you've ever seen him and it was all done without any visible trace. I doubt it's exactly the same but... Given how evasive whatever this thing is, maybe it's similar."

Almost pleading, he turned a worrisome smile in Mordred's direction before barking out a little bit of a nervous laugh, "I can't say I know how to trap someone that can cover their tracks like Gowther's, though! Haha!"

She can feel the eyes on her, feel the presence of something near, but hse's not afraid. It doesn't' have the same menace as what she's used to. It doesn't weigh as heavily on her mind.

She turns, looking around and spying the wolf. Her fear isn't at high tension yet, so she has enough sense to look down at its' feet, see that it's not the same creature that would have been capable of leaving the marks.

She smiles, just a little, at the creature, raising her hand, the one that had been on the door, and waving.

It might seem odd to greet a random animal but Loki has learned that not everything is as it seems.

If you're not into this, that's okay, the idea just amuses me.

Loki moves on bare feet, light and quick but somehow jerky at the same time. She seems uncertain of where she's trying to get to, like she might have just arrived there herself.

She sees a man, sees the way he watches the world and she knows that attempt to observe, to study all that is around you.

There's a part of her that wants to act casual, to slide up to him and say hello, get information than vanish once again but those skills, the ones she used to be so good at, have slipped past her. Instead she walks closer to him, carefully mirroring the way he moves until he acknowledges her.

"Vacation," she echoes, tilting her head a little. The clothes she's wearing are simple enough, thin and white, long enough to be a hospital gown without the ties. "Might be nice, yes. Pretty enough, at least."
wearenotdoinggethelp: ("knows everybody's disapproval")

As for his clothes, she might notice that he's definitely dressed in armour

He hasn't yet bothered to change or 'change' clothes - he can 'change' them at half a second's notice if the need arises.

Altough if more days pass he knows he should actually get a real change of clothes, but that's the farthest thing from his mind right now.

He's projecting self-confidence and ease, but his steps are very measured and there might be a flicker of something else, something not so confident, in his eyes, but only if one was to observe very, very carefully.

"You aren't, I take it, satisfied with this vacation? Do you have someplace else to be?"

Another kidnapped person, most likely. But the connection, what is the connection? Or are the kidnappings random? That, Loki has to explore, or he'll go mad with various suspicions.

"Forgive my manners, I haven't introduced myself. I'm Loki Odinson. From Norway. It's a pleasure to meet such a beautiful Lady, even in the middle of our, I'd suppose, involuntary vacation."

Offers hand for handshake.

[personal profile] gotaholdonme 2018-09-29 10:29 pm (UTC)(link)
She hums for a moment, her arms wrapped around herself as she considers how to answer. "It's unexpected, I didn't think I'd be going anywhere for a long time. But there's sun here. Sun is nice."

Her skin looks like it hasn't seen the sun in years and there are dark circles under her eyes. You might she was sick, or maybe unwell in other ways.

"Loki," she echoes. "I--" Then shes hakes her head. "It's a pleasure to meet you. That's how this goes, right? It's been--I've not had to do introductions in a long time."

Everything is pinging her weird, wrong, unsettling. It's hard for her to keep things straight and she can't keep the frown from her face, the uncertainty out of her eyes.

She knows she has a name, knows it might be the same as his but is that right? It feels correct but she can't trust herself to be sure.

"I'm sorry," she says, remembering to take his hand. "This is very new."
wearenotdoinggethelp: (Он сказал: "Я устал")

"The sun is nice indeed. And it's nice to feel it, and the air, isn't it? And the wind on one's skin. And to see all the normal colours, instead of- well, nevermind."

Why? Why, why say things pointless to say aloud, as nobody else has experienced them? Well. That's her fault. For saying that the Sun is here.

Surely she won't understand, anyway.

Loki takes her hand. He was going to take a peek into her memories, but right now, a gut feeling tells him that maybe he doesn't want to.

And so, he hesitates for a moment. He decides to check her memory later, not right now.

He's not quite certain why. It couldn't be because this woman might be insane or ill, that's no reason to hesitate.

Maybe in a moment.

Maybe he'll just check her memory after she finally introduces herself.

Such rudeness.

Loki gives her a serious, encouraging look.

"I don't bite, milady."

Ah. To Hel with it. He'll see her memories right now if she's not too skittish - as there's no reason to scare her away immediately.

"You haven't slept well as of late, have you?"

And he reaches to gently touch the skin under her eyes, as if in concern for her insomnia. And if she does let him touch, he'll take a dive, though because of unsettling feeling she's giving him, he'll only watch, if possible, some most surface memory of hers, something she might be thinking of right now, or recently.

Oh, have at. He's gonna be in for some fun....

[personal profile] gotaholdonme 2018-09-29 11:03 pm (UTC)(link)
"It's been a long time," she starts. "I was in the dark for too long. I didn't---" But she stops herself before she starts rambling on. There's a chill down her spine, a stirring in her head that tells her to shut up. This isn't the time and this isn't the person.

Her grasp is light and a little shaky. She sucks in a breath between her teeth, the contact, actual skin on skin contact, makes her almost burst into tears. SHe's trying to keep it together, trying desperately to look like a normal person but normality feels so distant from her now.

"I'm not scared of teeth," she says at his words. "Blood happens, blood happens so often. You can always get more, make more blood. It's the beauty of the body, Replenishing and falling away and replenishing again. Being alive, it's such a strange thing."

A pause, then a laugh. "I'm called Loki. Or I was. I don't know if I get that name anymore."

She freezes, letting him touch her because she's not used to being able to push away, to say no.

When he looks into her mind, he will see darkness, so much darkness. There are distant screams and flashes of deep, hot pain. There's a looming presence, a heavy, dark thing weighing down on her mind, but it's not the thing that is watching them here. It's bigger, more powerful and it eats. It eats as so much of her, tearing away the things that make her who she is. It ravages her mind and leaves her scared, scattered and confused.

And she can feel him. She doesn't know what he's doing, isn't sure how innocent his intentions are but she feels him stirring things up within her.

Loki laughs, not bothering to pull back. He may be a menace, but he's no Odin, he's no creatures from the darkness. He's not fueled by terrible things out to destroy everything. At least she thinks so.

She's still stumbling back though, eyes wide. "You don't--" she starts. "You don't want to go in there."

Loki lets go and takes a step back.

"I beg your pardon? I meant no offence."

Unsaid, but implied, Do I look as if I've done something, apart from showing concern? Are you sure this is not some delusion of yours, or a mistake?

She was right. What he's seen in her mind- ah, if he saw death and tragedies and suffering and normal pain, bearable or unberabel in, well, usual way, he wouldn't mind further checking, but he saw something reminiscent of some glorious memories of his own, and so, if he doesn't need to - no, thank you. No.

He gives her a wry smile, or tries to, oh, very much so, but it might come out as a bit of a grimace.

"Are you certain your name is Loki?"

If that really is her name, he might feel slightly flattered, as surely she's named after him, as far as he would think.

She winces a little, unsure of what to say at his questions. "Shifting a little, she bites at the inside of her cheek, just enough to draw blood to steady herself.

"Honestly?" SHe smiles and there might be traces of blood on her teeth. "I can't be sure. It eches, feels like something that I've heard before, feels right in the head, but you can never be sure. You lose so much, you have things take and take and take. Sometimes you never get things back. But names are almost a muscle memory. Sometimes. If they've not stripped you of everything."

SHe realizes she's rambling and stops, pressing two fingers to her lips for a moment before she speaks again. "What I mean is, I could be wrong but I think so. It feels like a good name, even if it may not be mine."

Sigyn | The Bifrost Incident | OTA

[personal profile] aworldanew 2018-09-29 11:33 pm (UTC)(link)
[ arrival ]

Sigyn doesn't stay put long once she's woken up and taken stock of the unfamiliar scenery. Nobody's sitting there waiting for her, which means no Odin or anyone who works for her, which is better than the alternative -- but also that she's separated from the rest of the resistance, and she has no idea how it happened. She's fairly certain that, with only days before the launch of the Ratatosk, Odin wouldn't bother playing with them if she'd figured out they were infiltrating the launch; no, Sigyn's fairly certain she'd be dead, in that case, which means this is something else entirely.

Well, that or this is some sort of afterlife, but she'll assume she's alive until there's a good reason to think otherwise.

She takes a moment to sift through the pack, but only a second, before closing it up and swinging it onto her back. She won't get any answers in the middle of a forest by herself; for that, she'll need to find people, so she starts walking, picking the direction her gut tells her to go in. One way is as good as another.

She keeps an eye out as she goes for any sign of other people around, moving towards whatever noises she hears and occasionally lifting her voice in a hum to try and draw attention of any people close enough to hear -- it's easier to keep up than a shout and hopefully sounds non-animal enough to draw attention.

[ ten days in ]

Sigyn hasn't left the home she's been staying much in the last five days, not since the first signs of something on the doorstep. It's the first sign that the feeling of being watched isn't just baseless paranoia, and she's more or less staked out her front door trying to catch whatever it is if it comes back. That's where she fell asleep, leaning against the wall, listening for something moving around.

She wakes up, and it takes a few hazy seconds to register the claw marks in the wall opposite. The chair falls over as she jumps up, stepping forward, only to take a step back as she steps on something wet, something that definitely wasn't there when she fell asleep.

The scream that comes out of her is frustration and anger more than actual fear. It was in her home, right in front of her, and she still has no idea what's happening.

She moves outside to take a look around, and she'll be there for a while, studying the door and the windows, looking around, trying to find any sign of how it got in and out again without disturbing her. Nothing's really helping, and it's only serving to make her more frustrated, but she really doesn't know what else to do.

Then she is reaching out, brushing her fingers against his knuckles, if he allows her. "You wear it well, the name. It rings right when you speak it. Sings a little."

Loki's been disrupted too, finding the thing had entered the place she was claiming too. SHe's not looking for help, she's not sure what she's doing exactly, but hse's outside, breathing in the air and trying to steady herself.

SHe's found clothes, comfortable and easy to move in, and a pair of boots she can use. She's still not been getting rest but she might look a little better since she's been in and out of the sun for the past few days. SHe certainly doesn't look like her old self but at least Sigyn won't have seen her the way she was when she first arrived.

Loki sees the woman examining the outside of the house and she finds herself almost drawn to her, confusion obvious on her face as she watches, just watches, and barely breathes. There's something about her that is ringing loud in Loki's brain, something she can't ignore.

LShe just stands there, int he middle of the open air, watching and waiting and unsure of what needs to be done now that her brain is practically singing with this sight.

It's been days of trying not to jump at the sensation of being watched, so it takes Sigyn a moment to register that there is actually somebody standing there this time. She puts on a smile as she turns, opening her mouth to ask about intruders, see if anybody else woke up to evidence of something having entered--

And then she stops short, her mouth hanging open, her chest constricting as she takes in her wife's face.

There's nothing in her head for a moment, everything frozen with pain and the grief that's never faded, and then, Oh. I'm dead.

It explains how she got here, and how she can be looking at a dead woman now. It doesn't tell her why it would take so long for Loki to find her, why something's hunting them down in the afterlife, but -- none of that matters now.

"Loki?" she says, faintly, tears in her eyes as she steps forward. She's too shaky to run to her like she wants to, but there is nothing that Sigyn will let get between them now that she's seen Loki.

In stark contrast to Gohan's paranoia, Howzer presented himself with a wide and confident grin. He came down barreling from the sky--smashing into the ground with a cushion of wind beneath his feet. He could feel an air of tension in the air around where Gohan was and came rushing to help, looking to present himself as the confident leading Knight he was voted in to be. Admittedly, he stumbled on his introduction--

"Heetings! I'm Gowzer--"

His hand extended in a pleasant, open gesture as if welcoming a handshake, Howzer froze up once he realized what he said.

"I..."

The moment was lost and, despite the tension that was very much apparent in Gohan, Howzer saw fit to pity himself more than anyone else.

"I'm... here..."

Arrival

[personal profile] whirlrock 2018-09-30 01:11 am (UTC)(link)
Coming down from the skies, Howzer touched down in front of Sigyn without so much as noticing her. He was used to jumping up in the air and being able to see familiar treelines and mountains but none of it was even remotely easy to sort through. After a long, drawn out sigh he turned to face Sigyn, his expression showing nothing more than a passive scowl--until he actually recognized she was another person.

"Ah!"

And, as if realizing that gasping in shock wasn't a good enough way to introduce himself, Howzer took a step back with his hands raised, his armor making little metal clinking noises as he restrained himself from making a retreat out of sheer embarrassment.

"W-Woah! Miss, you caught me off guard! Can I help you!?"
aworldanew: (you'll fall like a guillotine)

[personal profile] aworldanew 2018-09-30 01:29 am (UTC)(link)
People coming out of the sky are not exactly common on Midgard, and Sigyn backs up when someone lands in front of her, frowning and readying herself for some kind of fight just in case -- but Howzer seems surprised enough for her to back down from defense mode a little bit. Only a little bit, because who knows who's involved with what here, but it doesn't look like she's about to be attacked, at least.

"You might be able to." She smiles a little bit, glancing around and giving one last go at placing their surroundings before she asks, "Do you know where we are?"

[personal profile] whirlrock 2018-09-30 02:12 am (UTC)(link)
That exact question has been on his mind for the last couple hours. More and more, Howzer was feeling out of place and, ultimately, unprepared for what he had gotten himself into. Fortunately, Sigyn hadn't given him anything more difficult to mull over.

"Well-- No, I can't," Responding quickly and with a bit more honesty than he intended, Howzer returned Sigyn's smile with a half-smile of his own before it warped back into a look of consternation. "I'm sorry but this stretch of forest isn't even remotely familiar to me. It looks nothing like Britannia's landscape, so I'm fairly lost... myself."

Realizing immediately that what he said wasn't even remotely reassuring--

"But, I can try my best to help you find your way home if you're lost as well! Miss...?" His voice elevated a touch, making his last word hinge on a question as if he forgot all manners in introducing himself.

Admittedly, he had.

“Nothing useful.”

They're tracks, she can see what direction they're going in, but she doesn't expect to find much by following them. She'll still give it a shot, but...

“Bastard's good at leaving tracks behind, but nothing that leads to it.”

She just sighs, irritated with the whole thing. She's a knight of the Round Table (or was before wrecking everything), she should've been able to track the thing and bring it down no problem, not be confounded by mystery tracks and things like that.

And the sigh did little to relieve her annoyance, so she'll look off in the direction of the the tracks and yell. Probably won't help, but hey, it's something.

She nods at his warning but she's not trying to psychically pray. She's simply touching him for the sake of doing so. She longs to reach out to people, to have someone reach back and it not something inside her own mind or made of nightmares and fear.

"I don't know what I am." She smiles bitterly, though there's no fire to it. "It wasn't information that was deemed necessary." Pulling her hand back, she wraps her arms around herself again. "I didn't get to keep much."

He's seen into her mind, it doesn't seem like there's much point in trying to keep things from him now. "She--SHe didn't want me for who I was, just what I can build. I'm very good at building things."

She blinks, somehow being jostled out of her confusion for just a moment at the realization that this woman might actually know her.

"H-Hello?" She offers a small, uncertain smile. "I'm sorry for staring, I Just--" She's not sure how to go about this part but she just dives in anyway. "I think I might know you?"

THere's a part of her that already feels guilty about this, like she should obviously know this woman and it's a crime that she doesn't. THere's nothing she can do though, no way to fix it that she's aware of.

"Are you all right," she thinks to ask. "Did it find you too?"
