+1 organizational post

Hi Fablelanders!

I'm really hoping I'm not stepping on toes with this but it came up on plurk and making a post seems the best way to get thoughts organized. So, the game's a little slow, I think we've all noticed, and I think we'd all like to do something to give it a little kickstart. We've got a bunch of characters who seem to be the sort that are Get Up And Do Things people, which means that we should have them get up and do things. Of course there's going to be an upcoming December update but in the meantime:

organizing some sort of a town meeting! Rose has volunteered Kamala ([personal profile] morphogenia) to actually set something up for characters, but the reality of things is that it might need to be OOCly discussed more than ICly played out, just given time zones and all that jazz. But basically, making sure everyone knows everyone else (so characters who haven't met in a thread can handwave meeting here if necessary) and for characters to figure out who knows what/does what in terms of survival skills. So please feel free to chime in below with what your character might have to offer and/or thoughts on getting characters to meet and such.

exploring the sleep mechanic thing (meaning the thing where, no matter where characters fall asleep, they're transported back to the cabins mentioned in the November update) and starting to really explore the island. To that end I'm planning on having Bucky post in the next few days with attempts to get increasingly further away from the central cabins in doing some basic exploration. He'll be documenting his attempts (if we can call it that) via the mirror shard, and characters are of course welcome to join him or just chime in via the mirror; I'm planning to have it be several instances of attempts over a couple of days so there's plenty of opportunity for people to interact however they wish. I'm hoping it'll help open up the basic lay of the land for people as well as the limitation of the sleep thing and maybe spark some discussion between characters on what could have brought them here/what is keeping them here.

So, uh, thoughts are welcome, no idea is too crazy, let's make some things happen!!

I'm definitely in favor of a town meeting and handwaving that everyone has met each other! It's a small group so it works. Shiro would shown everyone how far his arm can go, and said he can take more than a couple of hits. He's an expert fighter and had to survive in the past. Everyone can notice how he's ready to take charge of shit, it comes naturally to him (like that scene of Steve in Avengers telling the cops what to do? yeah Shiro is very like that).

We'll have to see what the December update brings but when it comes to general exploring, he'll want to do that too, since so far there hasn't been any dangers to be wary of after the first week. He took a couple of days to gather food and get used to the place when he arrived but he's ready to go now. He'd suggest to organize the group so they go in different direction to cover more ground, and for nobody to go alone, minimum two people at the time.

They could also do some testing of the shards to see what they can do? Only video obviously we know that but everyone to aware that's a thing. Maybe test the distance too, do a check in when everyone reaches as far as possible in exploring.

Hello! Depending on December updates I am totally open to putting up a mingle led by Kamala.

For ooc purposes: She will state her skills are kind of useless here, but she is highly teachable so if you're willing to train her, she will pick up on whatever you need. Also she wants to try to explore the castle and basically do more to stick together as a group. She'll argue it's easier for them to survive together rather than apart.

HI and also thanks for setting this up!

So Lance here is... not that great at survival yet but he's getting places, he's been here a few weeks and since he's constantly around Keith who somehow did the whole "surviving with nothing but a knife" thing for two years, he's picked up a bunch of things. Basic military training also helps, to be fair. He's not super-anything, but he does have good eyes? all the better to watch your back with

He's a good shot, though he'd be much better with a rifle or gun than he currently is with his improvised bow. (Better at ranged combat than up close and personal for sure.) So hunting is a can do. Fishing is out due to circumstances, but he might be able to do that once some fish come back closer to shore. Not as good for gathering though (at least anywhere except around the Southern Shores, that's more his climate). He could in theory cook? He's not spectacular at it, but he won't set anything on fire that's not supposed to be.

Lance will be happy to meet people he hasn't met yet! Town meeting sounds very good for sure. He will happily explore stuff for sure, he's eager to find some clue about what brought them here. Experimenting with the mirrors sounds good too.

I'm good with a town meeting at some point!

Also cool with handwaving any introductions with “Saber” here. She hasn't really volunteered too much about herself outside of a slipup in Bucky's post, but she's gone out in her armor, she's got a sword, so we can handwave the whole knight thing too if needed!

She's okay with survival skills. She's got enhanced strength and durability due to being a Servant, but she presumably has some sort of wilderness survival skills from her days as a knight. And has knowledge of modern stuff and whatnot thanks to the whole Servant thing, so unless it's something completely ridiculous (jetpack, robot lion, etc), she's not going to be tripped up by people carrying guns and things like that.

And also cool with getting her involved in exploring things! She's definitely more of a doer, so she'd probably be willing to volunteer for exploring the area or doing distance tests with the mirror or any of that stuff.

Thanks for setting this up! :)

Lets see... I'm definitely okay with handwaving any introductions here. Keith has been around for long enough that, given how little of us there are, he'd probably have spoken at least once with everybody. He isn't exactly a social person, so it's possible that some people didn't get a great first impression, but I assure you his heart is in the right place. Also, he will be intrigued by the number of people with robotic arms around here.

As for his skills... Keith spent a good chunk of his life alone. He knows how to survive, and during the time he spent with his mother in a situation where hunting and surviving with what nature gave you was necessary, he learned a bunch more stuff from her on how to do just that. So yeah, he can hunt and he knows the basics of survival all around (shelter-building, fire making, improv-weapons, very basic injury treatment, etc etc). He only has one dagger, but back when he was with his mom, that's all he had too, so he can make do.

I can see him helping with hunting and exploration, as well as fighting. Keith is not a tank by any means, but what he lacks in brute force he more than makes up for in speed and sheer persistence. He will keep getting up until he passes out, which can be a good or a bad thing, depending. He's very stabby stabby, his dagger fighting style might be unorthodox (he is ambidextrous and he likes to... throw his sword at enemies sometimes like some sort of blunt object) and his methods unpredictable, but he will do what he can to get the job done and keep people safe while doing it.

He definitely doesn't want to lead so he will gladly pass the baton on that. He might take the lead of a smaller group, but he really doesn't want to be anything close to the "village's chief". He will say so if he doesn't agree with orders given, however, and he won't follow them if he is against them.

Overall though, if things make sense to him, he will be okay with helping in any way he can (hunting, guard-duty, exploring, figuring out what's happening), though his top priority (currently) will always be his friends, their safety and the urgent need to get back to where they were taken from.

Thanks again for this!

So, Peter has absolutely no survival skills. City boy for life! He saw his GotG buds hunt when they were here (and possibly stalks Bucky around to pretend he's learning? idk). But he's too much of a softie to actually kill something himself. So he's mostly just gathered up supplies and the like so far.

At some point he'll end up heading out in his suit. So that's a thing. He just won't be using his webbing much as he doesn't have the means to make more.

Other than that, he's very much the kind of person to like. Attempt to cook for everyone, just to share supplies and build some morale. Or to check in with people every day to make sure they're alright/see if they need any help.

He's all for exploring too. And just generally hanging out with people. bc being alone is boring.
